Old Sideboard Transformed With Ombre Effect

Storage is an ever-present conversation with my husband in relation to my sewing room - I am rather an untidy person so having enough storage so I can put everything away is a goal. Having moved home I am keen to fit out my sewing room with upcycled items, a) to reduce my resource impact on the earth b) it is cheaper! I spotted this dilapidated sideboard on Facebook selling page for $7, one of the doors needed reattaching and the black gloss paint was peeling, but it fits perfectly between my desk and the wall.
The door hinges were reattached, then the sideboard thoroughly sanded down to remove any loose paint. Once I had finished prepping the top of the sideboard was painted with fusion mineral paint, choosing the colour Azure.
Once this first coat had dried I then used these colours to create the ombre effect:1) azure, 2) sterling, 3) little lamb, 3) ash. Starting with the paler colours I applied confident brush marks, gradually darkening as I went down the piece of furniture.

These colours are very different from my usual colour pallet but I am so pleased I went for it! I love the finished result. You can read more about the process on the blog post here.

Were you curious as to what the wood under that awful black paint looked like?

I would have to see the wood before I did anything. I am sure it is a veneer, but the wood could have transformed this into a real beauty.

Not sure you can actually call this hombre, but you did say hombre effect...

Bottom line....you love it and my opinion is just that...my opinion.

It really looks nice where you placed it.

Just wondering if you still have the cabinet? If so is it still like you shown?
