I broke the glass in my Grandma B's picture frame. My heart sank. It was one using bumped out glass; not sure what that is called. It cracked her picture too when this heavy wrought iron bird bath fell on it. Long story. I calculate the picture and frame to be around 89 years old! It didn't damage the frame and for the last four years I've been thinking about what I could do with the frame.

I decided to make a wreath. What would be so appropriate? A Thanksgiving wreath giving "thanks" and bringing Grandma B back into the picture, so to speak.

I started with a trip to the Dollar Store. This store is fast becoming my go to store for crafts. It seems to always have something useful and quite a few times I've found one-of-a-kind items...like the cut out metal words: Welcome, Thankful and Harvest. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with them; maybe string them across the wreath or tack on. Then it came to me . . .

...the frame had a metal backing on it and I could use magnets (again from the Dollar Store and orange) to attach. I also wasn't sure if I should paint the metal words either black or different harvest colors

First I wove my ribbon around the frame. I chose burlap because the bow I found had burlap and shiny copper on it. Having the lace I think kind of toned it down just a bit. I then added the copper leaves (chosen because the bow also had copper leaves) and picks around the frame. I sorted through my silk and decided on just one color of flowers and added a dry filler for texture and used floral wire to tie on. Added the bow and placed the letters with the magnets. I will be so happy to have Grandma B's frame out on display in November. Even sweeter her birthday (124 years) is November 7!

Update: I decided to paint the lettering black so it would show up more and I moved the leaves to surround the flowers.

Update: I can't seem to get this right. I took off the ribbon and rearranged the flowers.
