How to clean soot off flagstone fireplace?

Behind the fireplace screen on the face of my flagstone fireplace there is an outline of soot stains. How can I clean this and remove it? Thx

Mix a bucket of warm soapy water and Tide detergent. Scrub with a soft bristle brush.
Soot is basically greasy. You can use any good degreaser. You can also use A few squirts of Dawn dish liquid in some hot water. Cleans off oil spills from birds.
