This week’s challenge was to update or create an item used for summer decor or play and make something that could be used for fall or other decor. I came up with several things I could do, but I finally decided on one that I had wanted to redo for a while. I had a solid, white wood bowl on a pedestal with a square base. It is just a simple wood bowl, that I have used outside for a while. I loved it the minute I saw it and knew it would be perfect for an outdoor table centerpiece. I used it outside on a table with a blue candle and seashells. I used the decorated bowl all of the spring and summer months. During the fall, I used an orange candle and burlap pumpkins. During winter, I used it with a red candle and pine cones on the outside table. I still love the wood bowl, but I am tiring of the solid white color. I also decided I wanted to use the bowl inside and change up outside too. I love the farmhouse, country, chippy, shabby chic, and so on look. So, I decided to shabby my wood bowl for a different look and bring it indoors to use for a change.
This is a picture of the solid, white, wood bowl. I got ahead of myself and forgot to take a picture before I took the candle and shells out.
I am going to cover the bowl with black spray paint and dry brush white paint over the black. So, first I used black spray paint and sprayed the bowl black.
I sprayed the outside of the bowl.
I also sprayed the inside. I wanted the entire bowl to be covered with black paint.
I sprayed the bottom too.
Next, I let the spray paint dry for about 20 minutes. I wanted to be sure the black paint was dry before I dry brushed the white paint over the black paint.
Once the black paint was dried, I used a small sponge brush and dry brushed white paint over the black paint.
Next, I dry brushed the inside of the bowl with the white paint. Used sandpaper and sanded some of the edges. Oops, forgot to take a pic of me sanding the bowl...sorry.
I used a damp cloth and wiped out the sanding dust. Then, I lightly sprayed the bowl with a clear coat by Krylon (Love this stuff). I actually lightly sprayed the clear coat two times, letting it dry in between sprayings.

I love the redo, remake shabby bowl. I think I will enjoy using it inside for a change.
Candy, anyone?
Who knows what or where the shabby bowl might be used.
This is a simple and easy technique. You can change up the colors to match your decor. Have fun, fellow DIYers!
