This decorating scheme is not recommended.

It will be extremely hard to keep the shower clean and sanitized. As well, depending on the thickness and compostion of your present shower walls, they may not be strong enough to withstand the increased weight of the pebbles and grouting, without becoming permanently damaged.

I don’t see this being any heavier or less sanitary than any other tile application. Sheets of stone are regularly used as tile in bathrooms and for kitchen backsplashes. I think it’s a fabulous look! Good luck with it!

I think the question may be resolved if we knew if this was a new build or if she is talking about putting this on top of fiberglass walls and floor of the shower or juat what she was putting the stones on. We can all second guess all day long. Without all of the facts, we cannot make a correct answer for her.

First, you need cement board in the shower, not green board. Green board is good for the rest of the bathroom. Cement board is for wet areas and green board is for damp. Now, as for the glass pebbles, if you want that look, find a tile that looks like it. There are plenty of them out there. It will be put together better, a lot less time consuming, be level, won't slide down the wall and have less grout. If you decide to go a head with this, you should paint any seam and screw hole in the cement board with red guard, then make sure your floor is finished before the wall. With that much grout, make sure that you seal it with several coats and keep it sealed.
