How can I update our porch without spending a ton of money?

our porch is in desperate need of an update and doesn’t do much for our curbside appeal so what can I do to update it without spending a lot of money? Side note-I’m waiting to update the porch before doing anything with the lovely landscaping of the previous owners!

get planters that hang on outside of the railings & put flowering annuals into them - on each side of porch - consider painting all the metal inc the door same shade as steps & grout in brickwork to avoids visually breaking up the small space. Hang your birdhouse elsewhere: birds won't nest around that much human traffic anyway. Try two matching benches that face each other on each side - paint same color as grout too - them having lift up seats for storage might be helpful. Try to find hanging planters you can hang from the bottom rail of the railings on each side of the steps - paint them same color - to add more flowering plants.

PUT you HOUSE NUMBERS in BOLD DARK paint on the risers of the porch steps - your life may depend on it if an ambulance is trying to find your address! Consider hanging a mirror and a stick on light on each side of door if you don't have porch lights - photo cuts off & can't see if you do...

Start by clearing all the stuff off to see what you have to work with. Looks like you might want to add some color. A new bright colored doormat is a good place to start. Pick out a color in the door mat and get or spray paint planters to coordinate. A bright color on your front door would help also. Looks like a chair on the left side by the bird house. A fresh coat of paint would help that too. A small plastic table would be nice next to the chair. If a plant is dead or dying move it off of the porch and keep clutter to a minimum.

That is a nice outdoor porch area! I would remove everything then put a larger rug out there... maybe a 3x5. Hang a wreath on the door and put a small chair set diagonally with a matching pillow on either side of the porch. It will look beautiful!

It looks like the porch floor is painted. Is that right? You may want to paint the steps to match for a cohesive look. Is an electrician in your budget? It would look nice to have a light fixture on either side of the door. Either way you could replace the small light fixture with something bigger and more eye catching. Some runs on either side of the door or stairs would be lovely - with an upright evergreen - either real or faux.

    I think the biggest cheap

change could come by painting your front doors a bright welcoming colour. Your favourite bright colour!

I always say paint is the most budget friendly way to transform any space! You can paint the stairs and concrete porch area. If you're feeling extra adventurous, borrow a friend's paint sprayer (or you may already have one) and paint the railings. Just make sure to protect your home from over spray.

You can also paint your front door for a pretty pop of color. Here's a post on how to paint your front door in a day: http://withinthegrove.com/giving-our-front-door-a-refresh-with-a-new-pop-of-color/

Paint can do wonders! Also, now is the time of year to look for things for your porch. A lot of stores have outdoor items going on clearance for the change of seasons.

Tiffany, I also think you should paint your door. Nice bright color that you love. You could also paint your wrought iron, but I think the biggest update you could do is with your accessories on your porch. Your tall bird house can be repainted and look wonderful. You could distress your big pot and plant a container garden. Your colors can be as subtle or as bright as you like. You could repaint your door mat, clean up the one you have or get a new one. A nice diy wreath in your color scheme would finish it off. Wouldn't cost a lot of money, just your diy and a few supplies. (For the wreath you could use Dollar Store flowers to save money.)

It is small so less is best. You could set your plant down on the top step or some seasonal decor. I would paint the cement with a pattern , paint the dark railing a lighter color, and maybe hang some green /flowery plants from the front hand rails on each side, mini boxes or moss lined baskets to add some color. You could also add curb appeal above the door and windows with crown molding and paint them. They are inexpensive if you are handy with a saw and paint brush. Maybe paint the front door a cheerful color. It is not a bad porch and steps, just a little color and eye appeal would go a long way. Hope this gives you some ideas.
