My DIY budget is very limited so I’m looking for low-cost ideas on refinishing rather than replacing my kitchen countertops.

They sell counter top paint for formica. They have a kit at Home Depot. It will make your counter top look like granite. It works pretty well. Just remember to wear a mask and open window. It is pretty potent paint.

I looked at all the counter top kits and much too expensive. I sanded my counter tops, taped them off, sprayed rustoleum make it stone until desired effect then used a waterproof valspar polyurethane. Make it stone comes in several colors. Both my counters are a year old and look great!

Rustoleum Transformations is the name of the granite looking kits for counter tops. Another option is Rustoleum "Rock Solid" which is an epoxy type product that can create a very shiny, vey durable finish on top of a counter top. It comes in about 5 different colors. I've seen counters and floors done with this product and they are beautiful. The product is available at Home Depot and Lowes and other home improvement stores....it's usually located near or in the paint department.
