We put ours in a small wooden garbage can shed with doors that lock. Or you can put them inside your garage. Bears will destroy garbage cans to get the contents.
I live near Yosemite and have bears! Those bear proof cans that screw on are the best I have seen so far to keep the bears out. I have seen these cans with bite marks as well as claw marks but the bears were unsuccessful in the break-ins!
