How do I fix my grass less front yard with very little money?

Currently, my front yard is just dirt. I wanted to put synthetic grass but it’s too expensive. I also thought of pavers, but it’s also too expensive. My yard measures about 850 square feet. Any ideas on how I can make it look nice without spending a lot of money?

How about a couple of fast growing evergreens (that doesn't necessarily mean pine trees), some grass seed & some mulch. You can add flowering perennials as money allows.

    There's more....

Those who garden share, so don't hesitate to ask for cuttings of something you like or to keep you in mind when something needs dividing. And, keep your eyes open for plants on the street. In summer 2014, I came across 2 batches of Daffodil bulbs in 2 different neighborhoods while walking 2 different dogs (1 was my own, the other was a friend's).

And, lots of people use plants as seasonal decor (i.e., fall Mums) & toss them when they're done. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I'd kill to have 850' yard to play with!!!

  • Xeriscaping. Do it over time as funds permit. Any landscaping is going to cost some money. Scour Craig's List, freecycle.org Nextdoor.com for free or low cost plants or landscaping supplies. When other people redo their houses and yards they want to unload the old stuff or excess cheaply or for free. I recently scored a truck bed full of used bricks just for picking them up.

You could do some big beds with mulch and a few shrubs or trees. Something like this https://www.hometalk.com/diy/grow/landscaping/front-yard-project-28821622

If this is a sunny area, no shade, plant bunches of burmuda or buffalo grass. Burmuda grass is a hot weather grass and you can find it growing anywhere, such as over curbs, sidewalks and along alleys. plant and water but it has to be done in summer.

We did Our whole Strip of Yard Next to the street (the Parkway) Filled It in With Decorative ROCK and BUNNY grass and Made a couple of of Creek beds bc the Snow plows WOULD Ruin our Grass there bc of the chemicals in Deicing . And the Sand. We ALSO put a Big rock at end side OF Parkway. This HAS helped IMMENSELY!!! Our Grass used to Die EVERY year even THOUGH my husband WOULD Fertilize, It WAS BC of The LIME in the the DE icing and salt sand combined👎🏼
