At this point may have to refinish. Can you put a runner over it?

I hope this can be of some help to you:

All you need to do is take some baking soda and vinegar and make a wet paste.

Paste it on the stain and let it dry completely. Next wipe the paste off, and get a clean rag that is soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Place the hydrogen peroxide soaked rag on the stain. This takes other stains out of wood, hopefully it will help you.

Try peanut butter. Spread on and leave on for 24 hours, then wipe off the next day

It appears the bug repellent left a whitish-stain. I would go to Home Depot & pick up

oil stain . Choose a color “ lighter” than the original color wood ( but darker than the actual stain. ). Apply & leave overnight. Keep applying, (if needed ) until u get the right color that blends-into your furniture color. Good luck.

If bug spray repellent ate the Finish on your table. My conclusion is that it must be shellac, not polyurethane or varnish. Most bug sprays have an alcohol type base to allow them to dry faster once you spray them on your skin. Alcohol will dissolve shellac.

Try Howard's Restor a Finish. It's worked wonders for me. I have luscious golden oak cabinets in the kitchen and a matching entertainment cabinet in the living room (stained concrete floors) and found that, after 14 years of mopping those floors, the finish on the bases had deteriorated. After spending long hours on my knees, I was able to bring back that finish with Howard's. Restor a Finish comes in a number of colors: I've used the golden oak, pine, and walnut and all worked wonderfully. I bought mine at a True Value hardware store--less than $10 a can--but you can probably get it at Home Depot or Lowes.

Hi Dora, Restore-A-Finish works really well. Just wipe on with a soft cloth in direction of wood grain and wipe off with a 2nd dry cloth. It comes in colors to match most woods and costs around $9.00.
