I need to bring inside my woven trunk hibiscus tree before winter in NE Kansas. Should I prune the branches this fall or wait until spring? - thanks

  • I wait until spring. I put the tree in my basement for the winter. It still needs to be watered occasionally. Prune afternit has been back outside again.

Hi there. Cindy here. Hibiscus should be lightly pruned in late summer or early fall.

It's best to prune your hibiscus in spring and if it needs pruning now before you move it inside, do it very lightly before late fall or winter.

Hello. I prune all of the blooms off, and leave the branches unless any look dead. I then store mine in the basement. In WI it is too cold in the garage. I let it go dormant only watering it every 2-3 weeks. In Early spring I bring it upstairs into a sunny room and start watering it every 2-3 days, and fertilizing it every week. Once it gets warm enough I put it outside for the Summer. Good Luck!
