you get the round Styrofoam shape at a craft store, and second hand Christmas décor at second hand shops. glue on the larger pieces, then the next size down, then the next size down again. it helps if you can get a green paint on the stryo before you begin. i've also sprayed a few ornaments as well.
I think there's a tutorial somewhere on Hometalk for that. But a styro foam base and just hot glue them on should work wonders. Get a high temp glue stick because the others are pretty wimpy.
