How do I remove smudge marks from a hardwood floor? ?

My hardwood floors have seen better days. There are a lot of smudge marks where furniture has been slide over them. What can I do to remove them short of refinishing the floors?

Try rubbing smudges with walnuts, no joke, or try using Old English Furniture polish either light or dark depending on the color of the floor. Not permanent fix but can make things look better and you can reapply as needed.
