How to replace sliding glass doors?

Is there a way to “replace” shower sliding glass doors, without replacing?

  • I removed mine in a house we owned a few years ago, Mindy. The doors will lift out of the tracks and the tracks are screwed into the walls. Remove the caulking around the tracks and then the screws. They should come right off. I filled the holes with caulk to match the shower surround. Lift the track along the tub and use a product like GooGone to remove the adhesive that is left behind. Good luck, it can be done!

My doors over a tub were removed by a professional. Afterwards, he used a small buffer, used to smooth edges of granite, and removed the marks. Everyone asks if we replaced the tub. I'm using a shower curtain because the bath isn't used very frequently.

Are you talking about removing the doors? I believe they should lift up to remove. If you want to remove the whole frame it unscrews from the wall. You can replace it with a shower bar and curtain.

How strange but I found the same! Stays much cleaner!

Hi Mindy, if you want to replace the textured glass within the frame you can take the metal frame to a commercial glass company and they can remove your current glass and install clear glass to fit the fame. Probably not what you are wanting to accomplish, but that is an option as well as what others' have suggested.

That top piece just lifts off then doors (have help) can be removed. I did it both for my dad and mother in law. And just put up shower curtains, much less expensive and you don’t have to clean them. 😏 Well you do, but just throw them in the wash!
