How to feed electric cable from garage to shed?

    need more info...underground or over head, distance between bldgs, protected area if overhead or open yard..

    I WOULD INSTALL THE CABLE IN A SMALL PLASTIC PIPE SO THAT, IN THE FUTURE, IT WILL NOT BE DAMAGED BY ANYONE DIGGING. DIG IT DOWN AT LEAST SIX INCHES.

    you can do an overhead, but i personally would bury it at least 8-10” underground..cleaner looks, no sagging cable, will probably last a lot longer. you can do the cable run, use a rented ditch witch or even a spade shovel, only has to be 3-4” wide and 8-10” deep...depends on what type of ground you’re digging in..you can bury the correct wire made for burying or run it thru pvc pipe and save some $$..you’re still gonna need an electrician to set your jct box in your garage, and do the tap at the beginning, so get one and seek his advice on the cable..200amp service minimum, depends on what you’re gonna plug in in the garage but ya never have too much..and i personally would have at least a couple 220 outlets available along with SEVERAL 110’s..again you never seem to have enough..

    You may live in an area with code restrictions on this issue. Better to check in advance with your code officer, than face fines on a lien against your property in the future should you need to sell.

    Most building codes do not allow overhead/above ground electrical wires except for the utility company. Check yours. you will need to dig a trench 12" to 18" (based on codes). The wire will need to be run through metal or PVC pipe. For a long run like you have you will more likely need to use #12 and a separate dedicated circuit in the panel box.
