How do I cover my very uneven paneling walls?

My walls are paneled and the line spacing alternates between wide and narrow lines. We tried joint compound in the lines and sanding but the wall is uneven as well. I dont particularly want a flat wall but dont know what I can do.

i my opinion, you can take them off, and either rehang them properly or go for another way of redoing your walls, paint them or using wall paper , even in just some areas, not necessarily the whole room

Hi Judy, have you considered buying some patterned flat king-sized sheets to draw attention away from the uneven wall? You an affix them with laundry starch and water mixture and when you want to change them they can just be pulled off the wall. Here's instructions, if you think you're interested in the idea.

Years ago I covered paneled walls. I guess it’s still made.... I used an ‘under’ cover paper that made the wall a smooth surface & covered up the paneling grooves. Maybe it’s still an available product; I’d check with a paint store that sells wallpaper. Not sure WalMart or Lowe’s, Home Depot would carry it, but perhaps they do! Good luck 👍🏼👍🏼
