DIY Wax Melts With Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil
I like burning wax melts in my home, but I wanted to use natural products. I made these with soy wax and essential oils. Soy wax burns cleaner and without the chemicals from paraffin wax.
I used a container soy wax from Crafty Bubbles because that's what I had in my stash. Container wax is a soft wax because it's made to be in a container. Since I wanted to use it as a wax melt, I wanted it to be firmer. I added stearic acid to the wax. Stearic acid makes the wax shrink slightly when it cools, so I can pop out the wax melter.
Stearic acid is optional, but without it, you'll have to scrape the wax out of your tart burner.
I melted 1 pound of soy wax and 3 tablespoons of stearic acid in a makeshift double boiler.
I set a glass measuring cup on a canning lid and put it in a pan of water. I heated it over medium heat until the wax and stearic acid were melted.
Then I carefully removed the measuring cup and set it on a hot pad to cool slightly. The glass is hot, so use hot pads to move it.
Essential oils burn off above 190 degrees, so I let the wax cool to about 185 degrees. Then I added 5 ml of essential oils. Since it's fall, I used Essence of Pumpkin Pie essential oil blend. It has cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and vanilla.
Then I poured into this cute little pumpkin mold. My mold is old, so it's not available anymore. This cute pumpkin mold would also work well.
Let the wax melts cool completely before removing them. Let them sit for 24 hours and then try them in your wax melted.
Now your home will smell like fall without using artificial fragrance oils or paraffin wax!
