Replacing old base boards?

Never attempted to replace baseboard before, I know that I'm not very handy at making a true miter cut for picture frames (usually end up just lapping boards!). But need to re-do all baseboards and trim molding in our old house. Any easy tips for an old man with a new sliding miter saw, and lots of free time?

Why do the baseboards need to be replaced? Our house is 113 years old and the baseboards are fine.
Some trim companies carry premade corners. Then all the cuts you need to do are straight and butt up against them. It’s much more expensive, but you don’t need to mess with mitres! :)
We used the decorative corner blocks, so all you have to do is straight cuts. Plus they look very cool.
