For my modern beachy farmhouse bedroom makeover (wow that was a lot of adjectives), the biggest difference came when I installed floor to ceiling board and batten. I love this classic look, even more than the 3/4 high wainscotting ones which are still pretty great. Having this simple white wall makes everything else in the room pop.
Floor to ceiling board and batten wall treatment
First I installed the top 4" plank (cut from MDF) and then I installed the 2" wide vertical planks every 16" on a stud. This was fast and easy! Painting was the slow part.
For the floorboard, I didn't want to rip out the existing one which was routered a bit. I ripped some of the leftover MDF to a 1" strip to put on the bottom of all my vertical planks. It looks amazing!
And voila! A beautiful fresh new look in my bedroom. For more details on this room makeover, visit http://www.honeybearlane.com/2014/06/master-bedroom-makeover.html

I LOVE this! I own a farmhouse that I rent out. There is a tiny bedroom that would look great with this wall treatment.

This is a lovely fresh look. The bonus is that you have support for various art installations too. Great job!

I love this look! So is the base sheet rock or do you have plywood for the wider area between the boards?
