Build a firepit using fire brick?

I have some old firebrick that I would like to use for the interior section when constructing a firepit. I would rather have a round pit but, square will work. On the exterior pit area I would like to use rock but, would consider stackable pavers. There a lot of nature trees which drop leaves and sticks which will require a lid on the pit, while not in use, for a nicer appearance.

Wow, you want a lot of very specific features. Where have you looked so far? Internet is full of free ideas and plans. Have you Googled? Or leaving it up to us to find you styles? Is this a DIY or a hire out? For a lid you have 2 options. Wood, which means the fire must be completely extinguished before placing it on top, or, have a metal or iron worker craft one for you. With the metal top, I would caution use around children as they can get some serious burns if left unsupervised. I have first hand experience of an accident just like this one. You can have a round pit. Lay your fire pit floor out to the diameter you want. You will have some that lay outside the diameter. You can build the rock wall up from the brick or you can take a stick, some line and a marker and draw the circle out, use a brick hammer or tile/concrete saw to cut the brick. So if you want a four foot diameter pit, lay out 5’ x5’ in the middle you will have a rod or something with string attached, stretch out to 2’ tie a marker draw your circle on the brick. You’ve just made a big compass is all. Your top should be some type of metal, screen material that they use in concrete would work it’s diamond shape, but sharp so be careful or maybe the ¼” square wire. You don’t want sparks catching the trees on fire
