Hi,

I have a sand texture and light popcorn texture in two rooms that join. Its outdated and has always looked bad at the door way into the next room. How can i soften the texture without scrapping then paint?

Thanks

    Hi Den,

The best way I have seen is to cover textured ceilings with Styrofoam tiles. They are light weight, easy to put up and come in many different looks. Unpainted popcorn ceilings can be taken down - but it's a messy job. It's worse if the ceiling has been painted. In addition, you'll need to test for asbestos. If it's sand, it was probably part of the actual paint so that would most likely have to be sanded - that's another messy job. Of course, it's up to you to decide the look you want. If it were me, I'd start by using a search feature like google or bing to see what kind of Styrofoam tiles are available and decide from there. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best! -Linda

Remove your trim and drywall directly over your textured walls and ceiling.
