Refinishing an old bathtub?

We need to paint our old tub which has chips on the bottom any suggestions ,
Cannot afford to purchase or install a new one

There is a product out there you can use. I like Home Depots products. They can walk you thru every step.
If porcelain or ceramic, consider having it professionally reglazed. I have done a number of tubs over the course of my lifetime, all with excellent results. Last one I had done was in 2007 and it looks brand new even today and gets daily use.

Have you thought to use a Bath Mat instead......
We have used RustOleum Tub & Tile kit twice and it worked well. The first time was on a cast iron tub, the second time was on a mobile home garden tub - not sure of the material.
Follow directions carefully.
Wear a respirator and ventilate area as much as possible.
Hello again, It is possible to acquire 2nd hand baths or End of line etc. which just leaves the cost of fitting. If you see a bargain and have the room to store till you have the funds to replace, it could be an idea. Otherwise , you could use waterproof adhesive/grout and cover the base or areas with Mosaic tiles - like in Roman Baths!
Gather the items as you can afford. Then give it a go......... Best wishes
