Hi Jennifer,
are you intending to use the door only into the Bay or moving the door to the end of the Bay? You could need Planning Permission or Building Regulations, so I would ask Local Authority before you start! Design will depend on style of property, and you haven't provided a photo. If you want to move the door out then you will need to make sure you have an RSJ to support the roof where you take the door from and where you move it too.
It will most likely change your roof line. As John mentioned, you will need a building permit in most locations.
