I've heard it might be tricky. Is it true? What is the best way to that? It's this year's plant. No flowers yet.
They should be winter hardy, so I would transfer them to your landscape (in the dirt), and enjoy them next spring. Pots tend to hold water and would probably freeze the roots, thus planting them in the ground would be best.
We over winter our potted plants in the garden. Just dig a hole deep enough to hold the pot, put in the hole and back fill with soil to the rim of pot. We always use plastic liner pots for plants and then set them in a decorative pot. Ceramic, terracotta etc will not stand up to the freeze thaw of our winters in CANADA. However tufta pots do wonderfully in buried in the garden.
You can buy a roll of burlap at any crafts/fabric store and cover the plants. the burlap will protect them from the winter elements yet allow them to breathe. In the spring just remove the burlap.
