How do i get a beautiful lawn?

Just moved into a new house in April. We have 2 acres and it's all crabgrass. We have done nothing but mow it all summer bc my husband says that we have to wait until Oct. We live in the middle of NC. Any good ideas?

It is almost October. You should be safe sowing grass seeds now. Grass will germinate quickly and rains will help water it.

Hi Traci. You can put down a winterizer fertilizer now, and then in spring you will need to use a crab grass preventor. Crab grass is a annual and reseeds itself. This has a preemergent in it that does not allow the crab grass seeds to germinate. Then in summer I use a fertilizer with weed and feed in it. Make sure to read the instructions on the bag. It is important to get these out at the right time. I am not a big fan of using chemicals but our lawn was the same way. Once you have it under control you can use a organic fertilizer. In WI we have one made here called milorganite. Good Luck!
