Hi there, it looks like solid wood, you could consider sanding it down and restaining it any color you like. If you're going for "rustic" than a change of hardware would definitely help the look a lot. As for the empty space on the left. I would add a shelf and a curtain to create more storage.

You can paint the cabinet vanity with chalk paint and add pretty knobs/door pulls.

What do you think of stripping it down to bare wood and the whitewashing the vanity and getting new door pulls

Hi there, You could fill in the gap with either shelves or freestanding cabinet or drawers on casters Add a Gingham curtain on a pole across it or add Pull out towel rail etc. Doors and drawers could be rubbed down roughly and painted, so giving you a rustic country look could be the colour of the fabric used to cover the open area............Enjoy the process......

Adding shelves to the empty space allowing for pre-purchased basketry (so you will know what sizing/spacing for shelves) will give you a use for this space as well as keep that rustic look you wish. You could also use wooden crates that you stain/paint to match/contrast with your treatment on existing vanity. Metal wire baskets lined with fabric to coordinate with shower/window curtain would also work as well as galvanized containers with labels, whatever the look you want. I'd consider sanding the vanity and then a paint technique. This is usually the least expensive way to "update" decor and the easiest and cheapest to "FIX" in case you don't like where you end up - lol! For a little bit more $, you could add some molding to the doors and drawers, plain flat wide slats added to edges would give you a shaker look and this seems to transcend various styles. It looks like you've got a beveled edge on your doors and drawers so also might consider thinner flat back molding to frame a bead board center. The paint technique would highlight this molding. There are so many to choose from I wouldn't want to limit you. Just pick the finish that you want and do the same to the new shelves. Just make sure you match it to your countertop colors - it's hard to see but looks like a brownish granite. Now there might be some "gray" in there and that's a very popular way to go right now. Your choice of rustic hardware/hinges will also help. If you are keeping the existing counter and sink you might also think about changing out the faucet to a more "country" style and match it to the metal choice on new hardware. Your choice of lighting and treatment of your mirror - adding molding to frame it and in the same paint finish will tie it together. 1 or two inexpensive small shelves in a rustic barn wood finish, either in the grayish or brownish tones would also finish off the area. Good Luck.

You can also paint the hardware if you don't want to buy new. RustOleum Hammered spray paint is great for that.

Thanks to all. We ship laped walls, hung new fixture, put a wood frame around mirror. Now we took doors off. Making frames the same size with rabbit wire instead of all wood. Will put hook and eye for closing and wood knobs. Stained all new wood and clear seal. Will put shelves in open area with baskets for storage.

    Will update photos when complete
