What's the best way to paint kitchen cabinets in a mobile home??

Remove doors and hinges. Sand all off the cabinets and doors. Use a paint with primer and top with a sealer. Put hardware back on. It is a good time to change hardware.

The easiest (cheapest!) way to change kitchen cabinets: PAINT.

You can do it the traditional way... take off ALL hinges and handles, label doors and where they should go. Prime! Paint with two coats. (Note: painting over hardware indicates an amateur job!)

If you want, get new hardware --- that is always nice --- and you can buy in bulk from Home Depot/Lowes.

Rustoleum makes a product called Cabinet Transformations. You can find it in your local home improvement store.

Mobile home cabinets usually have a paper finish. Make sure to sand off any rough or peeling edges. Clean them thoroughly. Using either an hvlp or a very fine nap roller, prime with Kilz. Then paint with a latex enamel gloss paint. You will need two coats of the enamel paint.

Another update is to replace your hardware. This is a good time to do it since you already have the doors off and have removed the hardware to paint. Amazon is a great place to find economical cabinet hardware.

I have just replied to another post like this. I painted mine with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint as it needs no sanding or priming.

Hi. If you have any deterioration on the cabinet, you know that it looks very similar to cardboard.

You will need to put a hard surface back on those areas. Use exterior spackling. Exterior spackling will hold up better under water conditions than interior spackling.

Sand smooth, then apply a primer that will adhere to plastic. Use a good latex paint.

Spray paint your hinges and pulls and knobs after having removed them from the doors. I soaked mine in paint remover to remove the sealer, cleaned well then used a bronze tone and they came out really nice. I re-sealed with a high gloss clear.

Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint with 220 grit sandpaper or a green Scotch Brite pad.. Use a tack cloth or damp rag to remove dust after sanding. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123, KILZ,or BIN and have it tinted to the color of the top coat. This will prevent dark or stained surfaces from showing through the top coat. Acrylic, or water base paints are low-fume and clean up easily with water. Alkyd, or oil-base, paints require good ventilation because the paint contains solvents that can irritate your lungs and make you feel sick. Alkyd options require mineral spirits for cleanup, but they provide a hard, durable paint finish. Whichever you use, buy the best-quality paint you can afford for a lasting kitchen cabinet finish. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.
