Every new mailbox design should be reviewed and receive the Postmaster General’s (PMG) seal of approval before it goes to market. There are height and distances from road as well.

There are no standards for mailboxes except for commercial ones. I have a friend who is a motorhead and he made a mail box out of a car engine. The mail carriers love it. I have seen bicycle mailboxes with and without dummies sitting in them .
