Fall Stepping Stone

I had some gourd vines pop up in front of my home. I decided to take a leaf and make a stepping stone.
I picked a large leaf from the vine. I used a piece of cardboard and added sand. I then placed the leaf on plastic wrap on top of sand making sure the vein side was upright. Lay a piece of plastic on top covering your leaf completely. You are now ready to mix the cement.
Make sure to keep vein side of leaf upright. This is how you get rich vein detail when cured.
Mix carton of quikrete concrete patch in the carton just add water. The consistency must be thick since it has to stay on leaf. You will need to judge thickness based on size of leaf.
You may not use all of the mix. Use smaller leaf for excess.
Let it cure for 48 hrs.
You can leave the piece as it is at this time. I chose to add a bit of fall color.
Paint however you like. It’s fun, easy. You may want to engage the kids???
You can use spray varnish if you like. I left mine plain. You could also add hole on top of piece using end of Wooden spoon if you want to hang. The leaf won’t need to be as thick if hanging and may be able to make two.
my gourds....surprise!
