How do I build an Island w/storage cabinets?
We just bought a cute little house and the kitchen needs an island with storage cabinets. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm also going to be painting the kitchen cabinets and the trim. I'm playing with the thoughts of a lighter shade of Teal for the trim and the cabinet doors in a rustic red - maroonish color. Any thoughts on that?

take 2 base cabinets. screw them side by side...decorative panel to finish the back of them , attach locking casters underneath, add butcher block top. or some kind of top cut to fit over the cabinets..
make sure the casters are heavy duty ...sorry forgot to add that information.cheap casters will not support or last
Hi Rosy Roy. I'm Cindy. I like Edensminx's idea to use kitchen cabinets to make an island for your kitchen. If you have a Habitat for Humanity store nearby, take a walk thru it. They have mismatched cabinets under $10. If you're going to paint them anyway, it doesn't matter if they are mismatched. Their stock changes frequently so don't be disappointed if you don't find anything the first time around. While you're there, look for a couple cabinet doors too. It would be nice to have access from both sides of your island. I would put corbels on one side of your island. Then your top would hang over the edge. It's so much better with the overhang when you're sitting at the island, especially for eating. I hope this helps you. Good luck.
