A Painted Faux Eyelet Border.. Instead of Crown Molding

Instead of adding crown molding to my daughter's bedroom walls, I decided to paint a border along the top of the wall, where it met the ceiling. I didn't want the to use a standard straight edge so instead I used scalloped shaped painter's tape and a custom cut stencil to give it a look of eyelet lace.
The process was straight forward:
Tape off just below ceiling line.
Give a quick coat with wall color (to seal the tape help stop any seepage)
Paint 2 coats of trim color and remove tape
Stencil wall color as the final detail.
The entire project only used a single roll of tape, one sheet of stencil plastic and some paint I had on hand. Total investment: under $20, but what a big impact. (And much more cost effective compared to crown molding)
I love how custom it looks and since it is only paint, it will be simple to change out when and if we grow tired of it.
