I can't ascertain where your ceiling is. If it were me, I would buy an wall mount for the TV and mount it just above the bookcase height. Then where the TV and other boxes are build another bookcase same as the others and that will give you more room. Place the TV boxes that are in the stand in the now new book case.
I would think about possibly mounting the TV on the wall and then you could find a book shelf/TV console for underneath that would store all of the TV boxes/cords. You could find some cute baskets to store all of those items in so that they would be hidden too :)
Depending on your budget some nice built ins would work. You could mount the TV and have some shelves and cabinets. This would store the books and also hide some things in cabinets.
(Depending on your budget) Sam's Club has some nice 8 cube organizers. You can use the organizers to store the books (in the upright position). You can lay the organizer on the side and mount the TV above it. The organizer cubes run around $100 each . You may even be able to find them at Walmart. They are very sturdy. The shelves in the picture seem to be sagging.
You might also try IKEA as they specialize in this type of storage.
every thrift and consignment shop has used TV cabinets of all sizes. get one that fits your needs and paint it white. I'm all for saving money and recycling.
Try to use shelves with doors so you can hide the books, or cd, or videos. Too messy look. There are TV entertaintment centers that hide the electronics and you can be more minimalist . The cheaper way? Place curtains in front of the book shelves to "ease" the messy look.
I was thinking buy some molding and make a cornice that extends across both sections of shelving and the tv area. Mount the tv on the wall and add hardware to mount additional shelving between the two units. Then it would look like a whole wall piece. Maybe add doors below the tv to hide the electronics. Use screen in doors so can still use the remote.
I agree you should mount the tv on the wall. I would purchase a sideboard or a dresser at Goodwill and paint it white. Heres a few for inspiration.
