How to make a sharp-cornered (brick) hearth safe for?

How does one make a brick hearth safe for little ones? seems like yrs. ago I saw a cousin fold a thick quilt and lay it on the hearth. Any other ideas?

These will work or you can attach pool noodles all around the edge and corners. Best wishes.

We laid a blanket over our sharp cornered hearth for the grands but the bummer guards mentioned by Kal would be good also.
