How do i keep weeds from growing in my flower bed?
I am disabled but I try to keep my flower garden weed free. but the weeds take over my bed I need help!
Sprinkle preen around the flower bed...that should help
Thank you
Weed cloth. It’s like a thin plastic screen that’s flexible and you cut holes in it where the bushes and flowers are and then put mulch or gravel on top of it.
Thank you
Landscape or weed cloth is a good idea, but you need to pull all the existing weeds you can before you put it down. You could probably put newspaper down first with weed cloth over it, as sunlight is needed for existing weeds to survive and they will die. The newspaper will degrade over the winter (it will still allow water to get to the plants) and that is when and where the Preen should be applied (in the early spring). Preen is a pre-emergent which keeps weed and other seeds from sprouting. Be careful not to use Preen where you have planted seeds, because it will keep them from sprouting as well. Best wishes for a beautiful and weed free flower bed.
Thank you
I agree with most of what Kal said, but it will not cause a problem with seeds you plant. I apply it every year and it has not stopped my vegetable seeds from germinating at all. It will not cover tree seeds, they are not weeds until they pop up where you don't want them, or root born weeds like creeping Charlie since they don't come from seeds,
Thank you
Mulch, mulch, mulch!
Thank you
I use preen, and found it very effective but first you have to pull out the existing weeds.
