HELP! I am terrible at making decisions and seeing the big picture! I have a 10 x 10 closet that I am trying to maximize space in. I will need a small area for long clothes but other than that I really need storage. I have gotten this far with Hubbys help but not sure where to go from here! Would love your thoughts!

need ideas on this back wall & right wall

This area especially because it’s smaller than the other side!

Going to add one more drawer under last shelf.

CORRECTION!!!My husband informed me that the closet is 5x5....oh how I wish it was 10x10😩

  • If this was my closet it would be stuffed with clothes, hats, shoes, purses . . .

Add shelving and a rod for longer hanging items. Install a shelf above the current rod and add baskets or bins for smaller items.

Hi there, Full length mirror in centre and repeat rail on other side. or could use a mobile clothes rail.

On the back wall, you could hang up scarfs, belts, necklaces etc.

On the right wall, you could have built in shelves or drawers. Put a shelf on top of the left side & possibly a shelf on top on the back wall too. Have fun finishing your project 😊l

Hi Holly If you do not have a mirror elsewhere I would add one on the back wall. It doesn't have to be full lenght just long enough that if you step back you can see head to toe, this way you can use whatever left over space you have for scarves, belts or maybe even necklaces (3m hooks work great for these items)on the right side I would add a rack long enough for your long items then add another shelf unit for shoes go up to the ceiling ( I'm sure that won't be enough :) we do love our shoes or you can do shoes and purses)

I would also add shelves above the cloths bars for all the extra storage.

good luck with your project and would love to see what you have done!!

Consider, too, clear vinyl shoe bags for shoes or lingerie. They take up very little depth and can be “customized” to go floor ceiling.

Above the light switch, I’d hang a jewelry board. Whether you frame a piece of cork or window screening, having your necklaces and earrings handy when you’re choosing your outfit makes great sense, particularly when the closet is so well lit.

That looks exactly like mine but I added a tall narrow shelving piece to the back wall. I filled it with folded clothes and I have all my shoes in clear plastic shoe boxes so I can see what is in them. I put a hook rack along the wall opposite the clothes for belts and things I just want to toss in there.

If you don't have too many long clothes to hang, I would put another clothes rod at the back, just go the length of your hangers and a couple of extra inches from the back wall so that your clothes don't touch the wall. On the right side of the closet, hang multiple shelves and use bins, etc. to hold all the rest of your closet things. I also use the clear plastic boxes for shoes and line them up on the floor of the closet in stacks. Add shelves above the clothes rods to store seasonal clothes, etc. in the bags you vacuum down. You may need a step stool to reach the higher ones (I have to use a three step one to reach my top shelves, I am only 5ft 3in). I hope this helps, you Holly!
