Recycled Denim Tab Top Curtains

I love working with old jeans, they are so versatile and hard wearing. I always have a stash to hand but did have to ask friends and family for donations of old jeans for these tab top denim curtains.
I started by measuring my windows, doing a little simple maths to work out the fabric required per curtain. The curtains are made from rectangles measuring 12.5" by 8", each curtain requires sixty rectangles.
From each pair of jeans I cut roughly four rectangles. The denim was sprayed with spray starch as some jeans have stretch, this helped with accurate cutting.
Once I had enough rectangles I played with the layout and design to gain an even colour balance.
Next up finishing all the raw edges with a zigzag stitch to prevent testing, followed by sewing strips together.
Once I had the curtain fabric completed I turned to the waistbands. Carefully unpicking from the old jeans, followed by sewing the waistbands closed.
The waistbands were cut into equal lengths measuring 15", folded over and stitched to the top of the lined curtains. you can read how I lined the curtains here.
To add a finishing touch I added a range of buttons to the tabs.
My rectangles are not perfect but I love my super warm denim tab top curtains.
The curtains go perfectly with my denim themed bedroom. Do take note of the quality of the fabric around the knee area on your jeans, the denim can be quite thin.
