Has anyone frosted glass

I have a very large mirror in my bathroom and it needs to be replaced but my husband does not want to. I thought if I frosted the top edge of the mirror where there is damage to the back of the mirror. Suggestions

It depends on the amount of damage. You could add larger frame to it. You could glue tile around it like a frame with e-6000. You can etch with acid but be sure to follow directions and cover your sink in case of drips. It is acid. You can also buy a can of frosted glass spray. Use a stencil to spray it on. It comes in clear and a light aqua.
Way back when you could actually buy a spray ( paint Like) at Lowe's to restore the coating on the back of a mirror. ( quick silver or what ever) Check there first.

I have used glass etching cream and it works great. You can get it at craft stores and one tip I have is to make sure to paint it on one direction as it can show stroke marks. If you are worried about it and want to try something that is more temporary - try Elmers Glue - it will frost your glass and you can see if you like it or not. The other thing you can buy is Gallery Glass and that will give it a frosted glass look, not permanent, and easy to work with.
Put a frame around it it will hide the damage and update it
I have seen people place a pretty magnet on the bad spots.
