How to paint antique chairs?

I have two antiques chairs great shape but I want to change the color of the material, can I paint the material in this chairs , please help me??

This was given to me by the same owner after 60 years a great old man with a beautiful story about his late wife!it was his wedding gift to his beloved wife ,unfortunately his going to a home and he given to me , help me to make then beautiful again

  • What a great story! There are lots of fabric paints out on the market. Pick up a couple different brands to test, I would turn the chair over and test there first. Then whichever one is easiest for you to use and has the best coverage, give it a go.


    Another option would be to reupholster it yourself. If you go this route, remove the pieces carefully to be used as a pattern for new fabric.


    Or, if budget is not a concern, take to a reputable reupholstery service to do for you. Not cheap, so don't get sticker shock when they quote the price.

    HI Carmen, What a sweet man and am sure you want to do these chairs justice. The pattern may still be visible if painting and the texture will not feel the same and you usually have to go with a darker color. Red might work.


    If you try painting watch several videos to determine what sounds best. I purchased some fabric medium to try this but haven't found the chair I want to do yet.

      Thank you 🙏 I think I’m going to try to paint the bottom of one chair to see how it goes, I’m love with this chairs but they cost to refurbished it’s more than i thought 🤔
