Do you have a tack room for all leather items, blankets, and grooming tools? Also a room to store feed, usually hay goes above in loft.
My Dad always had me keep our horse barn organized. I loved horses and he knew I would love spending time in the barn. First we kept the saddles and all leather equipment well out of reach of where the horses would stand. Sweat produces a little salt on leather and they may chew on it. I was told never to hang a saddle blanket over the rails where they would stand, for example. Then we kept all sharp tools in a particular area away from the horses stalls or walk way so there would never be an accident where they may step on something. Then we kept everything for the treatment of horses in a cabinet where children wandering in might get into something harmful like medicine or liniment oils. This was up high and latched. The hay was in a loft over head and handy where we could drop it into a manger, like an open chute to fill the manger. The baling wire and twine was hanged on a large hook on the wall where we kept the hay so no one could get hurt stepping into it or getting tangled in it. If you do your own barn care you will need tools to clean stalls and a wheel barrow to haul off old soiled straw etc. Be sure to have a fresh water source for the horses also, and buckets if you do not have automatic watering system built into each stall. I hope this helps get you started, Debbie
