When is the best time to cut back trees--and is there such a thing as cutting them back too hard?

Hi Brenda, I suggest you contact your County Extension Agent for good advice about when to trim back trees and it will help if you know the variety. I've always heard you should never trim more than 1/3 off at a time; however, last spring my neighbor cut some of their bushes and trees back nearly to the ground (nearly 95% of the plant) and they have grown back lush and beautiful. I truly thought it would kill them or at least damage them, but not so.
