How do I keep squirrels from eating my hibiscus blooms?

We have five very healthy and beautiful hibiscus plants except for the fact that squirrels are eating the buds before they can even bloom...I have even set up feeders away from the house hoping that if the squirrel is not hungry he won't eat them...unfortunately they are still munching away...

Try putting a mouse trap baited with peanut butter near each plant. They will go for the peanut butter, the trap will snap and scare the squirrel away. I have had luck with both squirrels and chipmunks with this. They have stayed away for a decent while when I do this. I have actually never had trouble with four legged critters with my eleven hibiscus plants, other than digging a hole once in a while in the pots. I hope this will help you!
Hello Tki! We did this at our last house with crocus bulbs. Find something round for a form, and make chicken wire cages in a dome shape tied with fishing line. It's not pretty, but it temporary. Use tent stakes to secure them in the ground. When they are more established, you can remove the cage and hopefully not have made a salad for the squirrels. We have lots of deer in the area, and it works on them to an extent.....but they generally eat anything, so not much help for us now.
Try cayene pepper, sprinkled around. I used it on my bird feeder poles, greased with vaseline. lol . seems to work. I also spray the deer repellent on my hibiscus, begonia and any other flowered plant I have. They eat everything. If anyone has any suggestions for the deer, would be appreciated.
Buy a small cage , add something they like to eat. Take them out to the country and release. We removed 14 squirrels last summer.
I use to live in the country and had no problem with squirrels or rabbits. It's warmer in town and they have more choice of food I think.
