Looking for ideas to make my own "glitter" Christmas ornaments. One important factor is that the glitter stays on the ornament so they can be used year after year.

Crafters tacky glue is good for keeping glitter intact

You can coat the ornament with a thin layer of spray on glue or I have been told hair spray also works but I have never tried it. Good luck

Thanks, Tinyshoes! I will have to try the glue. I question whether hairspray would last long-term.

  • If you use larger glitter, it will most likely stay attached better. You could make shapes out of polymer clay and then press the glitter into them before you bake them.

Thanks! What a neat idea about polymer clay. I never tried working with the clay.

I got clear plastic balls from the craft store and did glitter on the INSIDE! You can make a little DIY modge podge mixture (just craft glue watered down) mix in a bunch of glitter, and pout that inside the ball. Swirl it around and then dump out the excess. repeat a few times if you want more layers of glitter!

ooooh! One color glitter inside, and glitter deco on the outside? With glittered bows to hang! (save a bit of the glitter you use in case you need to make repairs over time)

Morgan McBride is so right. We used to do glitter on the inside for the kids when my daughter was growing up because of the mess it made on the outside. I've got some from when she was in elementary school that are still beautiful, she's 27. My favorite has a few flower petals in it as well. Almost Victorian look.

Thanks, Kathy! So many memories! The ornaments sounds very classy. My second Christmas tree is a memory tree decorated with ornaments from vacations and childhood.

  • I've done it on the inside as well. The glitter stuck without glue because of static, I guess. We've had them for almost 15 years and they still look the same.

Thanks, Emy! Your idea even sounds better without the mess of adhesive. Good to know they have lasted over the years and better yet, not gone out of style.
