How to paint a washer and dryer?

Several years ago I purchased a front load washer and dryer. At that time I thought the bright red would really be cool in my washroom. I don't know what I was thinking! Rather than purchase a new washer and dryer set in a much more agreeable color, is there a particular paint I could use to paint what I already have? Or any other ideas about "covering" the red color?

Have you thought of wallpaper - the removable sticky kind?

Lilly, you can buy appliance paint at your local home improvement store. They can answer all your concerns. Paint usually comes in spray or application with a brush. You will need to decide what works best for you. Hope you can change that red to a color you would better enjoy!

Before I bought new appliances, I painted my old harvest gold washer and dryer white. I cleaned them until they were spotless (couldn't believe all the nooks and crannies!), scuffed the finish with a sanding sponge, cleaned all the dust off, primed with Rustoleum paint and then painted them with Rustoleum in white. I didn't want to use spray paint in the house, so I bought the brush on paint and used a small roller. Let it dry thoroughly before using. Mine still looked good a few years later when I replaced them.

hello, here is a video on how to do it and you could also use contact paper. They make it in a lot of pretty designs.

There is a line of spray paints for appliances. Here's a painted enamel project:

However, I've seen some projects where people have covered their machine with contact paper. My favorite was a trellis pattern.

Here's a project where they used fabric:

this polka dot project is cute:

Take a good photo to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask them what will work for you. They have the best selection, the most up-to-date materials and most important, the most informative sales staff to get you what you need for a professional job.

Also, I have a friend who took his appliances to an auto painter and had them painted there and they looked like brand new!

Wow! Thank you everyone for some awesome ideas! It will be difficult to choose one! I'm stuck with these appliances for awhile so whatever it is, it will be better than the current red.
