Yes you can, but an easier way would be just to prime and paint. Use a good primer, BIN stain hiding primer and paint. This way you can change the colors much easier than putting up contact paper. Which in my opinion would be quite hard to keep.
You can but I personally think that it would be a difficult job to get contact paper straight on paneling. You'd also have to deal with the lines on or between the paneling. Those would need to be filled in with wall putty and sanded evenly first. You might look at vinyl pre-pasted removable wallpaper which would be easier to install straight. Other people have had great success painting the paneling. The paneling needs to be cleaned with a degreaser or TSP no matter which method you choose. If you decide to paint, you'll also want to scruff it up so that the paint will stick and use a primer first. Of course, the choice is yours and I wish you the best with your project!
You can. I don't think I would. It sounds like it would be very hard to get smooth and be happy with the look. Painting it white would be much cheaper easier and look better.
Carol, are you just looking for a temporary result? Are you renting? The whole thing depends on your prep. Make sure it's really clean. When you take off your contact paper you'll probably have to deal with some residue of adhesive. TSP is a good cleaner. Good luck.
