How to keep a columbine over winter?

I really had some beautiful columbines in my planters last season. is there any way to keep them over winter?

They are winter hardy ….OR.... You could save seed and replant very early spring.

Hardy in the garden - a little less so in a pot. Put it up against the house to shelter it in a non-freezing (shatter-resistant pot. "Though individual plants are short-lived, lasting only two to three years, columbine self-seeds prolifically and will persist in the garden with volunteer seedlings." -garden.org.
Don't dead head, let the flowers dry on the plant. When the start to split, shake out the tiny black seeds where ever you want them.
plant them in the ground. they should winter over fine
