Sand it, prime it, paint it. You decide what finish you want.... satin, semi-gloss or gloss.

You can also paint it with chalk paint which doesn't require any sanding. Good luck!

  • If it's pine or mahogany, (red or yellow wood), it needs to be sealed with shellac first. The oils in the wood will bleed and discolor your white paint. Shellac is easy to use and dries quickly. Use a cheap chip brush with it.

There is a paint that you d not have to prime, sand or seal. See it at www.beyondpaint.com

  • This question is right up our alley!!!

Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint is formulated to not have to sand, prime wax etc....

    Here are the steps:

    1. Clean well with Dixie Belle White Lightning
    2. If there are tannins, nicotines or other stains that could come through then we do have a product called BOSS that you would apply prior to painting.
    3. Using a slightly damp brush put on a thin coat of Dixie Belle Paint
    4. If you desire to have a second coat then after @10 to 15 minutes apply 2nd coat
    5. You are done, once your piece is cured (@30 days) the paint is not going anywhere.

Some people do like to use a top coat to add a shiny or satin appearance.
