I'd either paint or white wash the brick.

Some people would kill for that. You can always put sheetrock or other wall covering over the brick.

Using a dry paintbrush, paint streaks of paint in different earth tones on the brick to give the bricks some dimension and character. A little gray, cream and white streaks on bricks looks so new and fresh. But this only works on a dry paintbrush - you don't want saturated paint, just streaks.

  • You could give it to me! In all seriousness, you could paint over it. Be sure to clean it well first of all grease and grime otherwise paint won't stick well.

  • For a fantastic painted brick look, after you clean it, use this bonding primer to adhere really well to it, then paint it with 2 coats white latex paint. Bright, fresh, cleanable! Here's the brick chimney in my son's kitchen. They installed the brick to paint it!

If it is "already painted" you could take it back to original with a "sand" blast, But I would do it with what is called "soda" blasting or if you can find someone locally that does it, the best is "dry ice" blasting, best because "NO MESS!"
