Are there any Grey or silver embellishments for upholstery I can add to the frame to take away from the red frame? Can I buy a quilt already made and sew new cushion covers? Ty kindly

  • Just Google for a professional upholstery company in your area or flip through the yellow pages. If you are on Nextdoor.com, I have had luck finding professionals through referrals from my neighbors.

You can use the current cushion covers as a pattern to make new. The trick will be finding the a durable fabric for a sofa that has the colors you desire. Shop craft and hobby stores, fabric shops, designer fabric shops and on line.

You certainly can purchase a quilt and sew your own covers, again, use the current cushion cover as a pattern.

There are literally millions of embellishments possible. All depends on the style of sofa, your taste and availability. Shop everywhere possible and on line to find exactly what you want or need.

  • IlHi Catherine, the best way is to strip it down one section at a time. Pulling all the staples out first so that the fabric is still in tact. You can then use that fabric as a template to cut the new fabric. It also helps to take pictures along the way so you know how to put it back together again. Always start by removing the back fabric first. That gives you access to all the other areas. Good luck.

Hi Catherine, If I understand your post you have a wooden framed love seat and sofa with a large back cushion and a seat cushion which are zippered. Is that correct? Do you want to keep these pieces intact? If not you could open them up and use as patterns for your piece. First two pieces of furniture for a newby to recover is very ambitious. O.K. yes you could use already made quilts if you can find them and they are large enough to get the necessary pieces from Gray is a rather limiting color for a quilt. Did you mean you also want the Gray quilt to be made up of blocks? Also I don't understand why the embellishments for the sofa frame have to be for upholstery if the frame is wooden. You could use hardware pieces or jewelry pieces to add color. But frankly I'm not too sure exactly what you have and what you want to achieve. A picture would help so much/

You could paint the frame once you have the cushions off the pieces off the sofa and love seat. If they are metal, use a paint for metal such as Rustoleum. They have many colors, textures, even metallics to choose from. Spray painting the frames with think coats would give you a streak and drip free finish. Use the current coverings as a pattern to make the new cushion covers. If needed, replace the foam or whatever is in the cushions if you think some need replacing. You can do this Catherine! Take some pictures and post the project for us to see!
