How do I remove a shower valve fixture ?

My shower valve fixture needs to be removed as the water is VERY hot or cold. Under the fixture where the hole is to put the tool in to unscrew a screw doesn’t connect. Help

the problem I have is removing the handle. The screw under the handle is not lining up. Is there any other way to do it.

Seems like the handle shifted slightly misaligning the slot. Try slightly slowly turning the handle all the way in the direction to line the slot with the screw.
