Have ever wanted to build a piece of furniture with reclaimed wood? Then priced out the cost of reclaimed wood? No THANK YOU! I am going to show you how to make a potion for aging new wood. Guess WHAT? You can do it for way cheaper than buying reclaimed wood, roughly around $10.00! This post is pretty short and to the point because well....it's sooo super easy!
Have you noticed the cost of recliamed wood these days? EXPENSIVE! Use this how to guide for aging new wood For under $10. Old wood look on a budget!

Here's what you need:
  • A glass jar (mason jars come in packs that average about $1 per jar)
  • 0 Steel wool (you only need one pad so it avergaes to .33 a pad)
  • Apple cider vinegar (you can get this at the local grocer for a few dollars)
  • chip brush to apply it once the "brew" is ready!
You will want to get the first three ingredients together, open you jar and stick the steel wool in it, then fill the jar with the apple cider vinegar. Close the jar, and voila let it sit for 24-36 hours and once you open the potion, the oxygen will help it activate more and there you go you have an solution for aging new wood.

All you need to do is take your chip brush and brush the potion wherever you want to age your wood and let it do its thing, sometimes it will oxidize and age right away sometimes it takes a little bit. But it WILL work.

TIP: This will not work on treated wood!!!
Final Look - you can paint over this for a weathered wood under paint look as well :) You can add more after each layer dries to increas the weathered look as well. This guide will be game changer in aging new wood for your wood working and furniture building.

I’m assuming that you can’t use this method in wood that’s already been painted.

How long is the shelf life of this mix if I don't use it all up at once? You indicate 24->36 hours "cook" time. How do I tell if it is ready? Color change of vinegar?

How do you know if the wood is treated? I have two table tops that I would like to stain. Would you add a finish on top?
